I am a native of Media, PA, and have resided in Lyndell, Chester County PA since 1984. I am a graduate of Dickinson College. I just started painting a few years ago at age 59, and am an "Outsider", completely self-taught, with no art training of any kind. I always had an artistic bent, which I expressed through furniture design and construction, and commercial graphic design. I work in watercolor and oil, and favor landscapes, particularly where water is a feature. Scenes of starkness , desolation, or aged decay evoke a wistful, lonely feeling I find intriguing and try to portray. Being self-taught and somewhat late to the game, by necessity each of my pictures needs to teach me more about technique and composition, as well as being aesthetically and emotionally pleasing. I tend toward detailed, very realistic portrayal of subjects, with an eye on trying to reveal that which is essential and powerful about them.
I am a member of, and have won awards in juried shows mounted by, these organizations: Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (Signature Member); Philadelphia Water Color Society (Signature member); Delaware Valley Art League; Chester County Art Association; and Community Arts Center of Wallingford, PA.
